Patti Smith is an American singer/songwriter who happens to have some sage advice for us all. All of us should reflect on her words and live by them, especially if we haven’t followed them in the past. In particular:

  • Keep your name clean. Your parents gave it to you. Don’t dishonor them by dragging it through the dirt.
  • Don’t worry about … being successful. Don’t worry about making perfect grades, either. They’re nice to have, but eventually nobody cares about them. (Really!)
  • Life is like a roller coaster ride. Or a box of chocolates. Pick your simile, because it doesn’t matter. The point is that the lows make the highs sweeter. Christ’s crucifixion had to come before his resurrection.

I wish each of you a safe and happy new year.
